POSITION DESCRIPTION

Faculty Position (Open Rank) in International Relations or Regional Studies

(effective from August 2024 or, if agreed, at an earlier date)

Position Summary

KIMEP University College of Social Sciences, Department of International Relations and Regional Studies, invites applications for faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professorial level in International Relations. The position is a three-year full-time academic appointment to begin on August 16, 2024. An entry date in January 2024 may be considered. The position is renewable upon mutual agreement. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service.

We seek a talented teacher and innovative scholar who is actively engaged in research, enthusiastic about teaching bachelor, master and PhD students and serving the university, local community and the profession. We are looking for a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice in the field of International Relations and Politics.

Minimum Qualifications

While we encourage applications from candidates with a background in quantitative and qualitative research, we accept applications from candidates from all areas of International Relations, Political Science, Regional Studies or a related field. Applicants must have a PhD in one of these areas from an internationally recognized, accredited university. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is an advantage. For at least one of the positions we expect that the successful candidate can demonstrate experience in the supervision of PhD students.

Applicants for the position should have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience in higher education. ABD’s will be considered if they meet the other qualification requirements and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming the defense date prior to the position’s starting date.

The College of Social Sciences

The College of Social Sciences has 25 full-time faculty members, 10 part-time faculty members and 5 dedicated administrative staff. Apart from the Department of International Relations and Regional Studies, the College includes the departments of Media and Communications, Public Administration and Economics.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

Limited on-campus housing is available for rent. Alternatively, help in finding off-campus housing is provided. In addition to the salary, the benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching load during the first semester. Additional teaching for pay during the summer is typically available.

The salary will be subject to personal income tax at a flat rate of 10% as required by law.
