We are now inviting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) position in International Business. The position will be filled primarily as a fixed-term position under the tenure track system. The tenure track level is determined by the applicant's merits and career stage.

Job description and requirements

The field of the position is International Business. In the International Business subject, research and teaching focus on the internationalization of firms, foreign direct investments, international marketing strategies, and sustainable international business. We are looking for a person with the level of qualification of an Assistant Professor or an Associate Professor to strengthen the research and education expertise of the School. The research tasks of the positions are connected to the International Business and Marketing Strategies research group.

The following subject areas represent and exemplify (but do not fully cover) possible research areas that we value and are suitable for the task:

  • International ownership modes (joint venture or wholly owned subsidiary), establishment modes (acquisition or greenfield), and digital entry modes.
  • Management of firms’ global sustainable value chains, including resilience strategies for mitigating potential geopolitical risks and sustainability challenges.
  • Designing and managing digital and sustainable international business model renewal.
  • Opportunities offered by digitalization, artificial intelligence and analytics to identify and exploit global sustainable business potential.
  • Digital and sustainable global marketing of products, services and solutions.

The position holder can benefit from cooperation with one of the multidisciplinary research platforms of the University. The themes of these research platforms are Energy and Sustainability, Digital Economy, Preparedness and Resilience and Innovations and Entrepreneurship. The research related to the position is also linked to the University of Vaasa's strategic focus areas of business renewal, energy transition and societal transformation. Applicants must describe in their research plan how their plan relates to the research group and the strategy of the University of Vaasa.

We particularly value candidates who have successfully secured external funding for large research projects (e.g., Research Council of Finland, Business Finland, EU Horizon) and who demonstrate strong methodological expertise. We welcome applicants who can balance independent work with effective teamwork, stay self‑driven in their tasks, communicate clearly, and show a proactive attitude toward learning and improving.

Applicants are required to have a relevant doctoral degree and, in addition, excellent academic credentials, a proven track record of producing outstanding research, and evidence of high-quality teaching or the potential to do so. The tenure track position is research-oriented, but also includes teaching, thesis supervision, applying for external research funding, and university administrative tasks. The teaching and supervision activities of the position are intended to support the study programmes of International Business. In addition, the applicant will participate in supervision and teaching under the university's doctoral programme where appropriate.

The annual working time is 1612 hours based on the general collective agreement for Finnish universities and tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan.
