As a member of the Executive Committee (ComEx), the Associate Dean for Research contributes to the School's strategic leadership and institutional governance.

The position works collaboratively with all academic and administrative departments to support the development, visibility, and international reputation of research at Paris School of Business.

Position Purpose

The Associate Dean for Research is responsible for implementing, leading and monitoring the School's research strategy.

The role provides strategic leadership for research activities across academic departments and research centres, ensuring coherence, quality and alignment with the School's strategic priorities.

The Associate Dean for Research is accountable for strengthening the School's academic reputation through the development of high-quality intellectual contributions, the promotion of research excellence, and the expansion of partnerships with industry, funding agencies, and national and international academic institutions.

The position also ensures that Paris School of Business is fully integrated into the global academic ecosystem and continuously enhances the scientific, economic and societal impact of its research. Furthermore, the Associate Dean for Research promotes the integration of research into teaching and contributes to the continuous enrichment and innovation of the School's academic portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

1. Contribute to the School's Overall Strategy and Governance

  • Participate in Executive Committee (ComEx), Management Committee (CoDir), and all other internal and external governance bodies relevant to the position.
  • Contribute to the definition, implementation, and continuous review of the School's overall strategic plan.
  • Represent the Office of Research and Paris School of Business before external stakeholders, including academic institutions, accreditation bodies, funding agencies, corporate partners, and professional networks.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow members of the Executive Committee to ensure strategic alignment, institutional coherence, and the successful delivery of cross-functional initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure effective coordination and seamless collaboration between the Faculty and the Office of Research, fostering efficient communication, shared priorities, and operational excellence

2. Leadership and People Management

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Office of Research, ensuring the effective management, coordination, and performance of the research support teams.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and support team members, fostering professional growth and continuous skills development.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment that encourages innovation, engagement, and excellence.
  • Define, monitor, and analyse departmental key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring regular reporting to the Dean and Executive Committee and driving continuous improvement.

3. Research Strategy and Development

  • Define, implement, and regularly review the School's research strategy, identifying and prioritising research themes aligned with the institution's academic ambitions and areas of scientific excellence.
  • Promote high-quality, impactful research addressing major scientific, societal, economic, and environmental challenges while enhancing the international visibility of the School's intellectual contributions.
  • Develop and diversify external research funding through competitive grants, including European funding programmes, national and international research agencies, philanthropic organisations, and Research Tax Credit (Crédit Impôt Recherche) opportunities.
  • Strengthen the research infrastructure by enhancing administrative support, research management processes, and services available to faculty members and research centres.
  • Increase the national and international visibility and reputation of the School's research activities, research centres, faculty expertise, and intellectual contributions.
  • Develop and strengthen strategic academic and industry partnerships by:
  1. fostering national and international interdisciplinary collaborations with leading universities, business schools, and research institutions;
  2. expanding existing corporate-sponsored Chairs and promoting the creation of new Chairs in partnership with businesses and public-sector organisations.
  • Oversee and monitor the strategic development, performance, and outcomes of the School's Research Clusters, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and research excellence objectives.

4. Research Leadership, Engagement and Academic Impact

  • Develop, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, the strategic roadmap for the School's academic departments, research centres and Chairs, defining clear objectives for research outputs, faculty engagement across academic programmes, and externally funded research projects.
  • Ensure the achievement of the School's publication objectives while maintaining an active, internationally recognised research profile.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Programmes Business Unit Director to support the strategic development and international positioning of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).
  • Oversee the administrative and financial management of research projects in collaboration with Principal Investigators and the relevant support services (Finance, Legal Affairs, etc.), ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, reporting requirements, deliverables and project timelines.
  • Chair governance bodies, scientific committees and advisory boards within the research portfolio.
  • Design and implement initiatives that promote the visibility and international reputation of the School's thematic, interdisciplinary and applied research excellence.
  • Lead the dissemination and valorisation of research outputs through digital platforms, institutional publications and external communication channels.
  • Oversee the publication and biennial update of the School's Research Directory.
  • Strengthen the reputation of the PSB Research Lab as a recognised centre of academic excellence and business expertise through an active external communication strategy (website, social media, conferences, opinion pieces, media engagement and public events).
  • Contribute actively to the development of the School's institutional and regional ecosystem strategy.
  • Lead and coordinate the research components of national and international accreditation processes (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA and other quality assurance frameworks).

5. Research Funding and External Partnerships

  • Lead the development and management of publicly and privately funded research projects at local, national, European and international levels.
  • Support faculty members in preparing competitive research funding proposals and grant applications.
  • Design and implement a long-term strategy to increase externally funded research income.
  • Identify and develop new funding opportunities through continuous environmental scanning, strategic networking and proactive engagement with funding agencies, corporations, research organisations and specialised partners.
  • Coordinate the preparation of Research Tax Credit (Crédit Impôt Recherche) submissions related to the Research Lab, including documentation, financial validation and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor national, European and international research funding calls, regulatory developments and funding mechanisms, and communicate relevant opportunities to faculty members.
  • Drive the continuous growth of Research Tax Credit revenues through close collaboration with faculty members and the enhancement of research outputs and publications.

6. Academic Research Resources and Talent Development

  • Develop governance processes that foster an engaged, collaborative and high-performing research community by ensuring:
  1. agile and effective research governance and coordination bodies;
  2. proactive international recruitment of high-potential academic talent, supported by a multi-year recruitment strategy aligned with the School's strategic research priorities, in partnership with the Associate Dean for Faculty;
  3. transparent, rigorous and internationally competitive faculty recruitment processes, including selection committees and academic interviews;
  4. an attractive academic career development framework promoting research excellence, continuous professional development, international mobility, recognition and talent retention, in collaboration with the Faculty Office;
  5. the continuous enhancement of research support services, including research administration, partnership management, doctoral education, grant development and research project management.

7. Financial Planning and Resource Management

  • Develop, manage and monitor the research budget and associated financial resources.
  • Prepare annual and revised research budgets and ensure regular budget monitoring in collaboration with the Secretary General and Finance Department.
  • Produce operational and financial reports for the Executive Committee, providing strategic analysis and recommendations to support informed decision-making.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing academic or research teams, including performance management, coaching and talent development.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management, KPI monitoring and executive reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and French.
  • PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in a relevant discipline.
  • Internationally recognised research profile demonstrated through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and sustained academic leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of international accreditation standards, particularly AACSB, EQUIS and/or AMBA.
  • Significant experience in securing competitive research funding and developing strategic partnerships with industry and public-sector organisations.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and international environments and to foster cross-border academic collaborations.
  • Sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with digital transformation in research and higher education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and related tools).
