To strengthen its expertise at the crossroads of technology, regulation, and the creative economy, ESSEC Business School is recruiting a Professor of Management Practice (PMP) in the Department of Information Systems, Data Analytics and Operations (IDO). We are seeking a high-profile professional with extensive industry and/or government experience to bridge the gap between technical developments (AI, Cyber) and their strategic, political, and cultural implications on a global scale.

Mission

The Professor of Management Practice will join the Department of Information Systems, Data Analytics and Operations (IDO). The IDO department at ESSEC is a leading center in Europe, responsible for research and training in data analytics, AI, and technology management. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the ESSEC Metalab for Data, Technology & Society, which coordinates scientific and pedagogical activities related to the impact of AI & Data on institutions and society.

Key responsibilities include:

Core & Specialized Teaching:

  • Teaching core Information Systems courses (e.g., Digital Transformation, IT Strategy, Management of IS/IT) across various programs.
  • Designing and teaching specialized courses on Tech Policy, Regulation, and International Developments, as well as Digital Sovereignty and Soft Power.

Cultural Industries Expertise:

  • Teaching and analyzing the economic, legal, and policy aspects of the Cultural Industries and the Arts.
  • Exploring the intersection of AI/Tech developments with the creative sector.

Chair Participation:

  • Actively contributing to the ESSEC Chair in Cultural Industries, Arts & Creative Technologies, bridging the gap between digital innovation and the economic/legal realities of the creative sector.

Corporate & Institutional Relations:

  • Leveraging an extensive professional network to connect ESSEC with C-suite executives and high-level public administrators. This includes organizing guest lectures, industry partnerships, and enhancing the school’s visibility.

Pedagogical Innovation:

  • Developing new case studies and digital content that reinforce ESSEC’s relevance in the domains of tech diplomacy and creative technologies.

The teaching load is 240 hours/year (or equivalent contact hours), corresponding to a 80% part-time permanent contract (CDI).

Specifications and Requirements

This position is designed for a senior practitioner who bridges the corporate, administrative, and academic worlds. The ideal candidate will possess:

Professional Experience & Network:

  • Extensive professional experience (15+ years preferred) in Information Systems, Tech Policy, or Strategy Consulting within top-tier companies, international organizations, or government administrations.
  • A robust network of key contacts at the C-suite level and higher levels of administration.
  • Proven track record in navigating the intersection of technology, cybersecurity, and international regulatory developments.

Expertise in Cultural Industries:

  • Comprehensive expertise in the Cultural and Creative Industries (e.g., media, arts, entertainment, museums).
  • Deep understanding of not only the technological shifts (AI/IS) but also the economic models, legal frameworks, and policy issues governing the arts and culture sectors.

Academic & Teaching Credentials:

  • Successful proof of teaching capacity is mandatory. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to engage audiences at the Undergraduate, Graduate, and Executive levels.
  • Ability to teach core IS concepts to generalist management students effectively.
  • A Master’s degree is required; a PhD/Doctorate is a plus but not required.
  • Fluency in English and French is required.

The status of Professor of Management Practice implies devoting all the teaching activities to ESSEC (unless authorized otherwise), but maintaining limited outside activity and a link with the private sector is encouraged. The position is based in Cergy with activities also at Paris-La Défense, and with the possibility of visits to campuses abroad including Singapore and Rabat.
