Job Qualifications

A PhD in Management Science is a requirement. It can be in academic fields such as Strategy, Organisation Studies, Entrepreneurship, Management Control. Candidates have a solid record of publications and/or demonstrate the potential to publish in leading academic journals, according to their seniority level. For the Professor position, the ability to supervise research in France (i.e. a French “HDR” or Habil., or a current position of Full Professor, or Reader in the U.K.) is required.[2] While research carried out at the Department typically involves qualitative research (cases, interviews, action research), all relevant forms of research methodologies are welcome (e.g. quantitative, computational, foresight, FS/QCA).

The successful candidates will also provide evidence of strong teaching skills for a varied audience. An experience of teaching engineering students or involvement in mixed academic programs (with either a business or a scientific background) would be appreciated.

While command of the French language is not mandatory (many classes are taught in English in our institution), a basic or working knowledge of French (or a willingness to acquire one) is nonetheless advisable.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching portfolio at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, in both core and specialty subjects related to Innovation Management, Strategy, the ecological transition and entrepreneurship. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to develop new courses on their own specialties, for instance on topics such as (non-exhaustive list): technology and grand challenges, entrepreneurial strategy and processes, management control of innovation projects, business ecosystems and business models, digital transformation and organisations, the ecological transition and entrepreneurship.

Teaching at École Polytechnique in Management subjects typically takes place with smaller-size groups ranging from 15 to 45 students, in the form of ‘workshops’ combining lecture, projects and practice (classes are taught in either English or French, depending on the programme). Members of the department also supervise individual and group projects, as well as postgraduate dissertations.

Part-time faculty combine their teaching duties at École Polytechnique with a primary job in academia or industry and become associate researcher to the Management Research Centre. Associate researchers contribute to the laboratory's scientific activities, seminars and workshops. They take part to collective endeavours and the scientific supervision of doctoral students.
