PROFESSOR OF LOGISTICS (tenured or tenure track)

TalTech Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering invites applications to fill in a tenured professor position in the field of Logistics. The professor will join the hardworking team of the existing Research Centre of Logistics and Transportation of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and will be able to contribute to the creation of the Bachelor's degree program in Logistics and Mobility, the development of the existing Master's degree program in Logistics and the doctoral program in Engineering Sciences, the major in Logistics.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The goal of the position is to conduct research and development activities in the field of logistics as a whole, organize it and apply for the necessary financing. The sub-goals are to supervise doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows and conduct studies and further training in cooperation with companies, professional associations and research institutions; to increase the share of research and development activities and business contracts in the field of logistics and mobility; to increase the development and succession of the field by ensuring training in the logistics specialty in accordance with the requirements of the professional standard at bachelor's (logistics manager - level 6; procurement manager - level 6; mobility engineer - level 6) and master's levels (supply chain manager - level 7; mobility engineer - level 7) and ensuring the training of future and current specialists/managers in the field in accordance with the needs of the labor market.

Tasks:

• successful application and management of research and development projects, renewal of laboratory facilities;
• management of the logistics and mobility research group;
• publication of research and development results, including in high-impact journals, presentations at international conferences, work as an expert in one's field;
• balanced professional teaching, research and development activities in the fields of logistics, supply chain engineering and mobility management and responsibility for this level in one's field;
• expected directions of research and development work: logistics, supply chain engineering, mobility management, with a sub-focus on optimizing processes in these fields;
• supervision of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers and master's students;
• conducting academic teaching and educational development activities at a modern methodological and educational technological level at all levels of higher education in Estonian and English on the following curricula: Logistics, Integrated Technologies;
• developing cooperation with other research and development institutions and companies, including international cooperation.

Accopanying tasks:

• participation in the work of national and international professional decision-making bodies and committees;
• participation in international editorial boards of scientific journals, scientific or organizational committees of conferences;
• participation in the development of study programs, including the work of program councils;
• popularization of one's specialty and field of research;
• organization of professional continuing education.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

The following is necessary:

• doctoral degree in a research field related to the field of activity;
• research experience from a foreign university or research institution;
• experience in leading a research group/research laboratory;
• experience in research and development as a PI and responsible executor of a research topic/project;
• effective supervision of master's and doctoral theses;
• previous experience in conducting teaching at the three levels of university teaching and/or experience in managing a study program;
• high international level research in one's field, H-index >10 (ISI Web of Science or Scopus), published more than 10 high-level research articles (ETIS classification 1.1 and 3.1) in the last 10 years;
• oral and invited presentations at international conferences;
• experience in research organizational work;
• language skills: English language skills at least at level C1, Estonian language skills at least at level A1 no later than one year after taking up the position.

Candidates are evaluated based on their suitability for the position, but the effectiveness of the candidates' previous activities based on the length of their career path is also taken into account.

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is one of the largest departments at Tallinn University of Technology. We are responsible for two bachelor's degree programmes: Integrated Technologies and Product Development and Robotics; five master's degree programmes: Logistics, Future of Design and Technology, Vocational Teacher, Product Development and Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management; and one doctoral degree programme in Engineering Sciences with the main specialization Production and Materials Engineering, Robotics, Transport and Logistics.
