Academic Position in Digital Finance & FinTech at the University of Limassol

Executive summary

The University of Limassol (UoL) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant  or Associate Professor in Digital Finance & Financial Technologies (FinTech). Candidates are expected to have strong research record in the area of FinTech innovations and digital transformation of finance. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be engaged in teaching Finance and FinTech courses, supervising student projects/theses and actively participate in the development of the newly established department and University.

The position

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated faculty candidate with an excellent teaching and research record in the area of Finance and FinTech to join the select finance team of the University of Limassol.

We invite candidates with demonstrated scientific expertise in Finance and FinTech  and strong research interest in digital innovations in finance. Ideally, candidates will bring in expertise and experience in:

• the digital transformation of finance (the rise of FinTech solutions, and their impact on the financial sector, banking, payments, insurance, and investments;
• the emerging FinTech landscape (related risks and regulatory treatment of innovative financial technologies, current legislative and regulatory initiatives at national, EU and international levels).
• data-driven financial analytics for decision-making (computational finance, machine learning and AI, optimization, data modelling and visualization, big data in investments);
• Blockchain and decentralized finance (distributed ledgers, decentralized exchanges, smart contracts, digital identification and authentication).

The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching graduate finance courses in the MSc in Financial Services and the forthcoming MSc in Digital Finance as well as collaborate with the rest of the department’s faculty in high-quality research projects in digital finance, applications of artificial intelligence in finance and of Blockchain in smart contracts, green finance etc.

The successful candidate will complement the existing strengths in the department, will build an internationally visible group, and will actively participate in further developing the field at the  University.

Requirements

• A PhD degree in Finance & Fintech or related field;
• Strong research record and ambitious research agenda;
• Excellent teaching skills;
• Management and leadership abilities;
• Excellent command of English.

We also value

• Practical industry experience related to FinTech projects.
• International experience and integration in the international research community.
• Experience with the acquisition of research grants and/or industrial collaboration.
• A CFA Charter would be an advantage.
• Experience in program development and accreditation with national and/or professional agencies
• We expect the successful candidate to transfer her or his residence to Cyprus.

The remuneration package offered is competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in doctoral student supervision.
