Resilient Corporate Strategies of MNCs

The University of Fribourg is a full university in the heart of Switzerland. In the Department of Management, we want to start a research stream on resilient strategies of multinational corporations. A senior researcher is sought who will conduct research – together with a research assistant – on this topic. This “Research Group on Resilient Corporate Strategies of MNCs” is made possible by a donation from a Swiss MNC. The company does not only financially support the research but will contribute to the research projects, e.g., by providing access to decision makers for case studies and further information.

It is our objective to strengthen research and teaching on International Business with a focus on resilient strategies. Resilient strategies could build on, e.g., diversification, redundancy, circularity and decentralization. These elements are just first ideas that should be developed by the research group which is associated to the Chair for International Management. In any case, a broad and open perspective on resilient strategies is expected. With scientifically rigorous management research, the researcher shall develop relevant insights with managerial implications.

The successful candidate is expected to publish in leading IB or strategy journals but also in practitioners’ journals. Furthermore, the researcher shall contribute to the faculty’s master programme on international business by teaching one course per semester. Teaching is in English. Co-supervising doctoral students and supervising master theses is part of the task.

Applicants should have a doctorate in International Business or an associated discipline. They should have an excellent command of English; knowledge of French or German is welcome. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of publications in International Business.

We offer a very competitive salary and a low teaching load. The position is available for four to five years and it is possible to complete a habilitation or other qualification in this time to achieve a professorship elsewhere after that period.
