Research Topics

Audencia proposes several Venture Capital and entrepreneurial finance-oriented PhDs. Regarding our sponsors and funding supports, several specific research questions and areas are already decided or can be discussed between the potential candidates and the supervisors: Venture Capital in an international perspective; impact investing; public policies in entrepreneurial finance; etc.

Institutions and Supervision

The selected Ph.D. students will be part of the “Finance for innovation” Chair in Audencia Business School, under the co-supervision of Professor Benjamin Le Pendeven. The candidates will also be affiliated to public universities doctoral schools (to be decided together afterwards).

Research Funding

The acceptance for these PhD positions is conditional by the agreement by the sponsors and funding supports and by the public university doctoral school.


Submission of applications ASAP. Applications will be evaluated until the completion of the recruitments. The deadline for the submission with a clear and perfect project is Spring 2024, so contact Prof Le Pendeven ASAP to prepare the projects. The projects and PhD contracts are expected to start in September 2024.

Required Profile

  • Application is open for candidates holding, or in the process of completing, a Master 2 diploma (or equivalent).
  • The candidates must preferably have a relevant diploma in the fields of Management Science, Economics, Finance, Political Science, Public Policy, History, Applied Mathematics, Sociology and other related fields.
  • A deep knowledge of Venture Capital and entrepreneurial finance is not mandatory, but is a plus.
  • A deep knowledge of International Relations/public policy is not mandatory, but is a plus.
  • A deep knowledge of Entrepreneurship is not mandatory, but is a plus.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods, e.g., STATA, R, Python.
  • Previous experience in academic research would be considered as an advantage, but is not mandatory.
  • Professional experience in entrepreneurial finance, in public agencies, start-ups and in the innovation financing ecosystem is greatly appreciated.
  • Demonstrated ability of professional oral communication and academic writing skills in English. French is a strong plus but is not mandatory.
