The University of Fiji seeks an innovative, dynamic and research-oriented scholar as a Professor to join the Department of Language, Literature and Communication in the School of Humanities and Arts (SOHA), within the School of Humanities and Arts which also houses, relevantly, a Department of Education. The position is based at the Saweni Campus but the successful candidate may be required to facilitate courses at other campuses of The University of Fiji. The successful candidate shall be responsible to the Dean of the School of Humanities and Arts, through the Head of the Department.

This is a high-level position which requires proven leadership and competences in a diverse skills set and will suit senior academics and intellectuals interested in pursuing their career in inter-disciplinary aspects of Language/Linguistics/Literature, Arts, Communication, Journalism and Media (including Film), Education and Cultural Studies

Responsibilities:

• Providing academic support and teaching in the School of Humanities and Arts with special research interests, qualifications and scholarly experience in Language/Linguistics, Literature and Communication and Education.
• Pursuing excellence in teaching and learning, course coordination, curriculum development in Language/Linguistics, Arts, Literature, Communication and Education, as well as engaging in other activities as required at relevant levels;
• Contributing to the diverse research strengths of the Department/School/University;
• Publishing articles and research in peer reviewed academic journals as per University standards;
• Participating in curriculum review and academic administration for the Department and School;
• Engaging in research projects across a wide range of topics in the areas of Language/Linguistics, Literature, Communication, Arts, Journalism and Media Studies and Education;
• Providing mentoring and advice to staff and students in the School of Humanities and Arts across all disciplines in the School;
• Participating in planning and administration through School and University Committees;
• Undertaking a range of administrative functions at School and University Level as and when required.
• Providing academic and administrative leadership to the School.

The University requires all staff to proactively undertake community, environment and social responsibilities as well as participate in University Committees as per its Strategic Plan 2022-2026.

Requirements:

Candidates:

• must hold a PhD in Language/Linguistics, Literature, Arts, Education or any combination of these related fields from a recognised University with at least 10 years of tertiary teaching experience;
• must have a record of demonstrated scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant disciplines with demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate programmes as well as post-graduate programmes through in- person, online and HyFlex or hybrid modes;
• are expected to have experience in course, programme, and research development as well as curriculum design and should have peer-reviewed journal publications;
• must be able to demonstrate ability to supervise students at Masters and PhD levels;
• must possess deep appreciation of the multiplex diversity of the University of Fiji's staff and students including in gender, culture and expression;
• must have the ability to organise high-level exhibitions and Film Society events; and
• must possess a keen understanding of the human values foundation of the University.

Salary Band – $97,575.50-$116,220.50

The University offers a three-year full-time contract with renewals subject to performance reviews. How to Apply:
