The University of Milan is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Technology, Skill and the Future of Work. The candidate will make a key contribution to a cross-European research project, focused on technology and organizational change. The research project, titled ‘Up-skilling for Industry 5.0’, is funded by the Horizon Europe stream and is designed as a series of case studies in four countries and focusing on contrasting industries and focal technologies.

Starting date: December 2022.


This post is based in the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methodologies (DEMM). The ideal candidate will have a PhD in organization studies, sociology, anthropology, or an interdisciplinary combination. Applicants will be skilled in qualitative research methods and have experience of ethnographic methods. The person will be responsible for conducting ethnographic fieldwork at the Italian case study sites. The candidate will also prepare written reports, produce periodic case write-ups and collaborate with European partners. The postholder will contribute to dissemination of project findings through participation in appropriate academic and practitioner conferences and contribute to publications.

The successful candidate will contribute to research the impacts of advanced technological change, in terms of the human skills needed to interact directly with technologies, and in terms of changes to job roles and contents.

Oral and written knowledge of the Italian language is required.
